A study of blood 25(OH)D levels (an indicator of a person’s consumption of Vitamin D) was done by the author in relationship to studies of lung capacity. There was a positive relationship between higher Vitamin D levels and improved lung function, with higher blood levels of Vitamin D correlating to increased lung function.
CONCLUSION: The author states that vitamin D may be a beneficial factor in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including emphysema. Vitamin D may work by reducing oxidative stress. This function of vitamin D is an addition to the growing list of vitamin D functions in the human body. The author state that much research remains to be done.
