Judah Folkman introduced anti-angiogenesis (the blocking of the growth of new blood vessels) to prevent new cancers and to treat existing cancers 40 years ago.  Drugs have been developed for that purpose.  They are expensive and have toxicity.  There is evidence that diet approaches can be used with less cost and less toxicity.

The growth of new blood vessels (angiogenesis) is necessary for tumors to grow.  This article reviews evidence for the natural sources of anti-angiogenesis to prevent cancer.  Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is one natural chemical that promotes angiogenesis.  VEGF is increased in the blood of cancer patients. Blocking VEGF has been shown to block the growth of cancer.  Anti-angiogenic agents do not alter normal blood vessels.

The following are some of the known anti=angiogenic agents:  Retinoids, vitamin D-3, tamoxifen, curcumin, omega-3 fatty acid, ellagic acid, selenium, N-acetylcysteine (NAC), vitamin K-2, catechins, epigallocatechin 3-gallate (as in Matcha powdered green tea), resveratrol, quercetin, genistein, naringen, silymarin, retinol and lycopene.

NOTE:  Angiogenesis is a critical step in the development of cancer and cancer metastasis.  There are many natural dietary elements and supplements which can block angiogenesis and act for cancer prevention.
