The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced on 13 Jan., 2017, the lowering of the blood lead levels in young children which will trigger an evaluation and control of their exposure to lead. The old level was 20 microgram/dL; the new level is 5 mcg./dL.
The truth is that there is no known safe level of lead for children. The child’s nervous system is most vulnerable, resulting in lower IQ’s. Lead control programs are highly beneficial to those who are victims and to the government. For every dollar spent on lead control, between $17 and $221 is saved. This reduces costs for the families and government for health care, special education, and criminal activity. Every dollar spent on lead control increases incomes for the children when they grow up by preventing lead toxicity.
Also, as many as 535,000 children are exposed to lead sufficient to impair their health at this time. They exposed mainly in their homes from old paint and house dust. Some are exposed through their drinking water.
CONCLUSION: Lead continues to be a problem, especially for young children living in old homes with lead paint. Truly, no lead in the human body is acceptable.
NOTE: Lead toxicity can be evaluated by blood testing and hair analysis. This test can reveal evidence for lead exposure over the previous three months. Lead is stored in the body, especially in the bones. Those who show lead on testing can be treated with homeopathic remedy Plumbum metallicum or by heavy metal chelation. Long term treatment is necessary to remove lead from bones.
