Earthing is a process which promotes the interaction of the electrical charge of the human body and the electrical charge of the Earth. In fact, there is evidence that it improves the physiologic processes of the body. Grounded copper conductors connect the body with the Earth’s electricity. The authors conducted 5 experiments to evaluate the success of earthing under conditions of subjects asleep at night.
There were 84 subjects from ages 20 to 64, and they rested on insulated beds on the sixth floor of a concrete building from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am. A copper plate was attached to one leg which was connected by insulated copper to a second copper plate the size of a human foot on the moist ground. Some of the patients were not connected to the ground, making it a double-blind study.
First, after overnight grounding, the patient’s blood was tested for calcium, phosphorus, iron and alkaline phosphatase (enzyme). Eight hours of earthing caused lowering of serum ionized calcium, total calcium, phosphorus, iron and alkaline phosphatase. There was reduced removal by the kidneys of calcium and phosphorus.
Secondly, serum electrolytes were tested with earthing on 28 people. They rested for 8 hours, but testing for electrolytes was done after 7 hours and again after the again hour. Calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and alkaline phosphatase were tested. There was a break in contact for the last hour for some participants.
A break in contact during the last hour caused calcium and alkaline phosphatase to rise as well as inorganic calcium and inorganic phosphorus decreased. At the same time sodium, magnesium and chloride concentrations were elevated, which could indicate a movement from the intracellular spaces. Seven hours of earthing caused a reduction of sodium, magnesium and potassium levels.
Thirdly, thyroid testing with earthing was tested by serum levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), free T3 and T4. Overnight earthing caused an increase in free T4 and TSH with a reduction of the level of T3.
In the fourth study, 12 noninsulin-dependent diabetics on glibenclamide were studied. They had been under good control, but at the time of the study were under poor control. Their body mass index levels were over 28, suggesting obesity. Some were grounded and some were ungrounded for 72 hours. The grounded patients had a reduction in their fasting serum glucose levels.
Lastly, grounding and the immune response was studied after receiving typhoid vaccine and tetanus toxin. The study lasted for four days, and some subjects had sham grounding. Seven hours of grounding caused a lowering of serum iron, total protein, and albumin, while there was an increase in ferritin and globulins. A one-hour break in contact with earthing caused a rise in serum iron, protein and albumin, and a lowering of ferritin and globulins.
Earthing causes an effect opposite to that seen with weightlessness. The results seen in the serum and kidneys of calcium and phosphorus would indicate that they are being stored in the bones. The changes in sodium and potassium would suggest changes in intestinal absorption and renal excretion. Earthing changes iron and protein levels in the body, and alters the metabolism of glucose by cells. The immune response seems to be improved by grounding. Earthing can alter thyroid function, also.
CONCLUSION: “Earthing the human body influences human physiologic processes…(and) may be the primary factor regulating the endocrine and nervous systems.”
