A series of 5 medicinal herbal extracts have been formulated based on past experience with these plants and research. These herbs help recover from toxicity from xenobiotic* exposure. Each mixture is designed to be of benefit primarily in digestive, circulatory, oxidative, or urologic toxicities. The groups from Sevene Pharma Company are as follows:
Dig1 contains Taraxacum officinalis (common dandelion), Arctium lappa (greater burdock), and Berberis vulgaris (barberry).
Dig2 contains Chelidonium majus (greater celandine), Rhamnus fragula (buckthorn), and Raphanus sativus (radish).
Circ1 contains Carduus marianus (St. Mary’s thistle), Pulsatilla vulgaris (pasqueflower**), and Berberis vulgaris (barberry).
Sp1 contains Pulsatilla vulgaris (pasqueflower), Sambucus nigra (black elder), and Rumex crispus (curly dock).
Uro1 contains Spirea ulmaria (meadowsweet), Solidago virgaurea (goldenrod), and Capsella bursqa pastoris (shepherd’s purse).
Roundup (glyphosate) is the most widely used herbicide worldwide and a major source of toxicity, as are Bisphenol-A and Atrazine. All of these are found in surface water, feed for animals, and human food. Liver and kidney are the major organs for detoxification. Testing was done to see if these herbal extracts altered the course of toxicity resulting from exposure of cultures of embryonic liver and kidney cells to these three xenobiotics.
The results of the testing showed that Roundup, Bisphenol-A, and Atrazine caused toxicity to kidney cells was reduced by 25-34% by Dig 1. Toxicity from Roundup on liver cells was reduced by 71% by Dig2 and 48% by Dig1.
All of the above listed extract combinations were able to prevent toxicity by 1/3 to 1/4 within 1 to 2 days. In general, toxicities were reduced if the herbal extracts were applied to the cells before the xenobiotics rather than after. The toxicity of Roundup was seen at doses far below those used in farming and at levels seen in genetically modified feed and food.
CONCLUSION: The toxicity of xenobiotics, such as Roundup, Bisphenol-A, and Atrazine, on kidney and liver cells can be prevented and treated by combinations of herbal extracts, especially Dig1 and Dig2. It is known that most people have some glyphosate in their urine.
NOTES: *Xenobiotics are foreign chemicals to the body which are not a part of normal nutrition. Recalcitrant xenobiotics are those which biodegrade very slowly, or not at all.
**Pasqueflower (Pulsatilla vulgaris) is not the same as passionflower (Passiflora incarnate).
