Roundup (glyphosate) is a herbicide used in fields of glyphosate-resistant genetically modified foods, and as a crop desiccant*.  Roundup has been proposed as a cause of increasing rates of autism, which is a neurodevelopmental disorder.

Dr. W. Shaw reports on a family with triplets, 2 males and 1 female, and their parents.  The triplets were the result of intrauterine insemination and fertility medications.  The female was thought to have seizures at 1 year of age.  One male had developmental delay at 18 months.  Triplet 2 regressed at 25 months and refused foods he liked previously, preferring only rice and French fries.  Both males were diagnosed with autism by 34 months.

Before urine testing, the triplets ate a balanced non-organic diet, frequently eating corn tortillas with canola oil.  Increased rates of autism correlate with a rapid increase in use of glyphosate on corn and soy, worldwide.  Urine testing began at 3½ years.  The triplets all had markedly elevated urinary glyphosate at 25 times normal.  They and their mother had elevated levels of succinic acid or tiglylglycine**, indicators of mitochondrial dysfunction.  The father had a low level of urinary glyphosate.

The males with autism had organic acid elevations known to be associated with Clostridia bacteria and autism.  Clostridia are resistant to glyphosate, while many healthy intestinal bacteria, able to degrade glyphosate, are destroyed.  Nine species of Clostridia have been isolated from the intestines of people with autism, but not from healthy fecal samples.

After testing, the mother started the family on a diet of only organic food.  After this, one triplet had a glyphosate urine level which dropped from 39.4 to 2.25 microg/g creatinine.  The triplets all improved, but lapses in the organic diet resulted in fatigue and irritability.  The behavior of triplet 3 was appropriate at 4 years, and she did well in preschool, although she was small.

The high level of abnormal chemicals in the two males agrees with the interference of glyphosate with intestinal flora and over-growth of Clostridia bacteria.  Test results of the triplets agree with theories which connect autism, dysbiosis, and contamination of soil and food with Roundup.  Roundup reduces normal beneficial flora.  Harmful bacteria which are insensitive to that chemical, such as Clostridia, overgrow.  Clostridia result in excessive dopamine, causing damage to enzymes, mitochondria, and neuronal structures.

CONCLUSION:  Studies of triplet’s urine agree with current ideas that glyphosate (Roundup) damages friendly bacteria, allowing Clostridia intestinal overgrowth.  This increases levels of dopamine, causing enzyme and mitochondrial damage, and neurodevelopmental problems, such as autism.

The findings in the triplets strongly calls into question the widespread use of Roundup around the world.  People who follow organic diets can still show glyphosate in their urine since glyphosate is present in soils worldwide and drinking water.

NOTES:  *Glyphosate is a desiccant used even on non-GMO plants to kill and dry them at the time of harvest for safe storage.

**Succinic acid and tiglylglycine are chemicals which can be used to diagnose metabolic problems.
